Crealev are the ones who designed these fun Levitating Lamps. Based on magnetic levitation, the lamps atract attention while defying gravity. The company`s levitating technologies evolved from a professional collaboration between Angela Jansen and Ger Jansen – daughter and father. They combined their expertise in Dutch design and mechatronics to develop this levitating technology. These levitating lamps, part of the LOS! Collection, are either classic or modern in design, touching opposing poles when it comes to the looks, but using the same amazing  technology. There are two beautiful designs to choose from: LOS#1 and LOS#2 are the two different design routes taken by Crealev. Using LED lights, Los#1 was created in a classic design, to accentuate the combination between vintage design and modern technology, while Los#2 has a contemporary shape. The lamps feature gaps of 3,4cm each and come in black and white. Los#2 was born after the classic design, as a response to modern visual trends: “The philosophy behind this model is that it adapts it’s environment, therefore we call it the Chameleon.” Both models are beautiful in their own way and the good news is that no matter if you like classic or contemporary design, there is a Los out there for you.

Pilar’s Story Toyshop designed by Elia Felices is definitely not an ordinary kids” store. Located in Mataró (Barcelona), the toy outlet covers and area of 170 square meters and resembles a miniature fantasy world. Here is the official description from the designer: “The facade consists of the frame of a mirror that marks off the interior and simultaneously invites us to cross it to enter the shop. Another circular form joined to the arch contains the backlit logotype of the establishment. The visitor passes through the frame to a fantasy world, as in the children’s story of “Alice through the looking glass”. Together, these frontal elements act as the threshold, marking the frontier between our world and the world of fantasy. The colours that personalize the project are the lime-green already present in the frame of the front and pink fuchsia. Both contribute happiness, vitality and energy to the project, in addition to combining to the perfection with the surrounding white of the whole space.  The above-mentioned colours give small touches of fantasy that are further complemented by the lighting.” The toyshop was designed not only to attract children, but people of all ages. We know we would certainly take a look inside if we were around.

We’ve gotten a lot of messages from Freshome asking from advice on how to deal with electric wires. In a small home, they are usually a major issue. This is why we try to find as many ideas as possible that help hiding the displeasing and inelegant power cables. To this end, today’s post features an innovative product that we recently received via e-mail from Designcord. The Autorewind Cable Reel has a total of four fixed sockets and 10 meters of wire. Once the green button on its surface is activated (by hand or by foot), the rewind function allows the wire to retract. Simple and practical. • Random geometry: Do you prefer asymmetry as opposed to all your decorative elements aligning? Feminine décor enjoys the randomness of design and asymmetry, rather than symmetrical groupings. For displaying collections and grouping pictures, use this generic rule of thumb. If your personal style is more of a free spirit, and you prefer organized chaos, you will love feminine décor cues throughout your home.
• Playful pairings: Since feminine colors lend themselves more to pastels than bold solids, don’t think that you can’t pair colors, and patterns together for a cohesive marriage of aesthetics. Light pastel colors pair up beautifully with dark browns, blues and even black. Feminine décor doesn’t have to be used throughout every element of your space. This unusual visitor’s center was designed by architect Nuno Ribeiro Lopes and is actually a make-over of the old existing building with the same purpose in Graciosa Island, Portugal. It is in this modern looking building that travelers get information about the sulfur cavern in the area. Built above the water and surrounded by natural craters, this glass construction is truly spectacular. The visitor’s center has a total of two levels. The bottom one seems buried in the ground and houses the bathrooms and an exhibition area, while the second floor accommodates a wonderful spot for observing the landscape. We like the fact that the construction looks modern, but not too flashy and that functionality was the key factor when rebuilding this center. What do you think? When we think at a mountain house we tend to imagine a modest cottage, usually made of wood, with nothing inside but a cozy fire and simple furniture. This particular home comes from David Guerra Architecture and is located in Minas Gerais, Brazil, in a beautiful natural environment. But it definitely does not resemble a common and moderate mountain lodge, but more like an opulent contemporary residence. Designed to be a weekend family getaway, this home features generous verandas, a water mirror, a cascade and a pool. Here is more information from the architects: “All private and social areas were developed in one single level which faces the mountains. The verandas of these premises are turned to a grassy courtyard where the swimming pool with a deck, a douche, a water mirror and a cascade is located. The materials were chosen with the aim to combine beauty, snugness and ease of maintenance and to create a contrast between natural and technological materials such as reclaimed wood, stones, earthenware, bamboo, tile, fiber, metal, stainless steel, double glazed and laminated glass, glass tile, anodized aluminum, wood venetian and tecnocimento.” Even though this home houses plenty of modern items (the furniture, for example), it also has some charming rustic and natural elements which combine in creating a lovely home in a dream location.

Porches are an extension of your inside home and any opportunity you get to maximize its appeal you should take advantage of it. For most small porch owners they think there isn’t much to do with a small space, especially when it comes to adding decorative color appeal. With the addition of color your small porch will be a pleasure to look at from the inside and outside. Here are tips to beautifully add color to your porch.

• Keep it simple: When decorating a small space, the best idea is to keep it simple and uncluttered. Have minimal seating and enough room to walk between furnishings and enjoy the seating area. Add color with an overhead trellis of flowers, or paint it in a bright color to contrast the rest of the porch. The more you accentuate the architectural details of your porch with color, the more it will come alive with personality

• Flooring can beautify your space: Whether your porch is concrete, wood, or tile a colorful floor will make your porch come alive. For concrete consider staining the floor to add visual interest from the usual gray. Stain wood decking with a beautiful terra cotta coral, deep brown or aged umber can create southwestern hue to your cold porch. Add an area rug for softness to the cold floor and one more layer of color!
• Small porch, big ideas: You may be limited by your space but you don’t have to be limited by your ideas. If you have a covered porch, consider hanging plants, lights and colorful paper lanterns to bring color to the space. If you have a railing, use it to hang colorful real or artificial flowers in flower planters. In the fall and winter seasons, artificial flowers placed in decorative planters will help you stay happy and festive throughout the cooler season.

• Bring color into the furniture: Even if your porch can only fit two chairs, this is an opportune way to bring a burst of color to the space. Use fun colors and patterned cushions, or spray paint the plastic or metal chairs in bright cheery colors. For a screened in porch, consider using slip covers over chairs for a more formal look for evening or a Sunday Brunch!  Even if the weather doesn’t permit sitting outside every day, the first sunny day may be great for catching up on the newspaper or magazine for fresh air for an hour.

Your porch can come alive with color and inspiration with a coat of paint on your chairs and coordinated throw pillows and playful fabrics. Make your small porch feel like a hidden oasis with carefully chosen pops of color. For a personalized look, take colors from your interiors and bring them outdoors. When you sit inside your home it will elongate the space and make your porch feel one with the interior. Remember your home is unique, and a small porch is just one way to make it feel alive!
